I have been bad

Clearly I have, because Karma's been after me since Friday.

1) Buster, my Sacred Birman cat, developed trouble with his peeing on Thursday night. Ten thousand trips to the litterbox, a few drops each time. Same Friday morning. Otherwise, he was in top shape. Called the vet, vet said bring him in at once. I was alone at work, so had a friend (who has keys to my flat) zip over and take Buster to the vet. Who found an empty bladder (thank goodness, no obstructions!), no obvious irritations, inflammations, etc., and gave the cat a shot of antibiotics in the bum and declared "special food" for this cat, too. Sigh.

2) My bike broke down! Some tiny cogwheel inside the back wheel hub, something the bike doc only sees maybe once a year. Of course that had to be me. Grah. Had to get a (big) taxi to take bike and me to the bike shop, seeing as I was stranded downtown.

3) I got a cold. Like, MAJOR owies in the throat Friday night. All night. Until morning and then through Saturday. Got some stuff at the chemist's that lowered the pain. Now my nose is clogging up. Whee.

4) My laundry machine is breaking down. Very bad noises coming, it's too old for warranty fixes, so getting a repair person involved is a total gamble. If it can be fixed, it'll cost X money (lots). If it can't be fixed, it'll cost me a new machine PLUS the fee for repair person to come over and look at the old machine. These fees are brutal. So I went online and bought a new machine, to be delivered on August 1st. I can't be arsed to deal with expensive and probably sloooow repair wossnames.

This summer is just so dang expensive! Both cats getting sick with whatever (must take Laban to the vet in a week or two to check his liver thingies), bike breakdown, laundry machine, flowers and flower boxes for my "garden", and just grah.

At least my summer holiday started on Friday. And the weather is, finally, summerly. I am tanned! It is hot! And the new trailer for Thor: Ragnarok is SO. AWESOME.

Thanks to the weather and the holiday start, 1-4 above have not managed to turn my mood into a vinegar factory. Norwegians are easy to please. :)

Give me a fandom and a prompt, and I will write a fic with that prompt where the characters sing all their lines like they're in an opera!

Years and years and more years reading fanfic. All the porn. Or pr0n, as it was called back in the day. And I still can't get used to how they keep saying their partners' names during the act. Repeatedly. Like it's some sort of sex mantra. It's weird, is what it is! @_@

Many visitors

This summer I am getting all the visits! Cousins and cousin's exes and old old friends and my mom! Okay, so mom visits every summer, but the others not so much. It's lovely to get all these guests, but also a wee shock to my introvert hermit's system. The cats love it, begging for snacks and affections shamelessly. They get the latter, but not the former on account of vet's orders. Poor sods.

The annual St Olav festival is soon upon us, I should get moving on the ticket purchases. Am feeling lazy, though. Tomorrow. Maybe.

The new Spiderman movie is glorious. I have now seen it three times at the cinema, and it was worth all those three times. It brought the fun and laughs back to the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), something it desperately needed after Captain America: Civil War kinda broke the Avengers. (Like the Hulk kinda broke Harlem.) The new Spiderman is so precious. A 15 year old kid, not elegant, not smooth, zero game, utter dork and super sweet. I just want to put him in my pocket, take him home and feed him. The interaction with Tony Stark is also great, and I am very much relieved that it was just enough, not too much. This is Spiderman's movie, after all. And the bad guy, Michael Keaton, oh my word. Fantastic! He's becoming more and more Jack Nicholson-like, in a very good way. The Vulture is a bad guy we can understand and sympathise with, unlike Ultron and Thanos and Red Skull and such. The Vulture is an unpowered human with a very honest grudge, a real background; like the Kindpin from the Daredevil TV series - but more likeable! There are of course also a ton of candy for the fans. I don't follow the comics, but I have seen all the movies and TV series since 2008. And I have read metric craptonnes of fanfic. So yes, I get to notice lovely little non-plotty fan candies, like Principal M*****. ♥

Shield under Phil Coulson’s direction feels like some creepy cult built to lure your ass in with vague implications of “doing good” and “looking after the world”, but in the end it’s just an organization run by a mighty whitey whedon red-shirt that demands absolute loyalty or threat of exploitation when you chose not to help them (basically, it’s just another facet of the US Government.)

I think that becomes much clearer when Daisy simply decides to trust them (because Coulson drugs the undercover Nazi guy with truth serum) and the narrative has her do it without further suspicion of their intentions in episode one, and makes it so that Mike Peterson’s mistrust of organization like SHIELD is wrong because they know better than him and he needs to be saved from himself, never-mind he had legit reasons not to trust them or Daisy (after that point), who put him in their crosshairs.

Then there’s the fact that whenever there’s an organization (like the one Jiaying set up) that isn’t affiliated with Shield (and doesn’t like them), the Whedon Klan does its best to find a way to demonize anyone who a): doesn’t want to work with shield, b): doesn’t trust shield’s intentions.

Fun obscure niche JRPG from the 90's.

There's a game that I really, really like from when I was a kid called Paladin's Quest. It's a SNES JRPG which plays like just about any other; turn-based combat, equipping items to adjust stats, altering party formation so that the tougher party members are up front, but it's the little things that make the difference.

For starters, the game's art style is unique; it uses pastel color schemes and french science-fantasy inspired aesthetics, so that everything looks and feels fresh. Then there's how magic works; there's no MP, all spells you cast come out of your HP and every time you cast a spell you increase your power with the spirits associated with that spell, ultimately increasing your overall power. Overall, this means that your characters are going to be casting new spells regularly throughout the game to develop your spirit affinities as efficiently as possible, which makes things pretty interesting, and the fact that your casting out of your HP means that you need to be more thoughtful about your magic. And of course, no healing spells. Healing is handled via refillable potion bottles of varying degrees of power and so managing your healing resources is also important.

Overall, it's a pretty fun game and if you at all enjoy old-school JRPGs, I'd definitely give it a shot.

More vid game recs cuz I love you all

I think today I'll toss some recs for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive

Streets of Rage 2 is the greatest beat em up video game ever made, and the best game on Sega's 16 bit console

Mazin Saga Mutant Fighter is another great beat em up, this time based on Mazinger Z. Really great animations, and a neat ass style change when you fight bosses

Castlevania: Bloodlines is the best 16 bit Castlevania. Best levels, two characters. Sorry, I don't make the rules.

Granada is a really neat and cute tank game with great controls. You get a weak little shot, a button to hold your position, and a huge ass shot that actually sends you flying back. Fun fun stuff

MUSHA seriously just play MUSHA please it's freaking amazing

Mamono Hunter Youko really tough action game with great designs. Emphasis on really tough

Alisia Dragoon is a neat action game where you play as a girl with sick lightning powers and a variety of familiars. You can charge up your main attack to be a huge screen wiping blast.

Contra The Hard Corps is the best 16 bit Contra, but only the Japanese version which gives you 3 hits before dying.

El Viento is a cool action game made by a group called Wolf Team who eventually went on to create the Tales of series. You play as the cool spell slinging boomerang tossing girl in the 20s trying to fight the resurrection of HASTUR.

Beyond Oasis is a BEAT EM UP ACTION RPG HOW IS THIS NOT THE BEST THING EVER

AKA Attack of the Kamen Riders because they only had 3 parts in the last one and overtook the majority in this one!
Warning: Minor spoilers for a couple shows, but the only one that is really spoiler-ish out of context is Kamen Rider Ex-Aid.

I'm currently watching Kamen Rider OOO (8 episodes left), so that is really prominent in my brain and I was constantly jotting down things to add as I was watching the show. And I also re-watched the Wizard net movies recently because they are such a gold mine for comedy.

Can you believe big corporations and the politicians who back them have been trying to regulate the internet like television and radio, since, like, 2011 (IIRC)? And with laws that would benefit major corporations (ISP in particular) and put the poor or working class at a major disadvantage, and basically make it impossible to access information if said corps. don't like sites or charge for speed? There are still posts on this blog from my LiveJournal Days back when SOPA, PIPA, and ACTA, were a thing. Like, holy, shit, they just don't stop.
